Seattle Theatre Group (STG) announces the following concerts. Damien Jurado In 2010, the revered Damien Jurado released his ninth album, Saint Bartlett, to laudatory praises from both fans and critics. In keeping with the undeniable chemistry he shares with Richard Swift, the two recorded a collection of covers, Other People's Songs, which is still available to stream and download for free here. NPR called their rendition of Bill Fay's "Be Not So Fearful" the best cover song of the year. 2011 found Jurado enjoying high hometown praise as Andrew Matson of the Seattle Times dubbed Jurado "Seattle's folk-boom godfather." Jurado was in the studio once again with Swift, collaborating further for a psych tinged full length record, Maraqopa, to be released on February 21st, 2012. While it is Jurado's tenth full length, the number '10' might just be the least important or interesting detail about the album. Whereas that milemarker could be seen as an apex or a culmination, this record is just the opposite. It is a beginning; a record that is disinterested in where Jurado has been, and fully engaged in where he is going. A new 5 piece band will be joining him to recreate the album's expansive sound. The Neptune show on February 17th, 2012 will be a celebration of both the record, and of 10 albums of evolution in songwriting. Craig Finn Craig Finn, frontman of the critically acclaimed group The Hold Steady, has confirmed the January 24 release of his debut solo album, Clear Heart Full Eyes, on Vagrant Records. Earlier this year, Finn challenged himself to write a new song every day in his Brooklyn apartment. "I had written a bunch of songs that were outside of the norm for The Hold Steady, a little quieter and perhaps more narrative," says Finn. "I wanted to gain some experience and insight into the process of making a record by working with new people." Finn travelled to Austin, Texas in July, removing himself from all familiar surroundings, to record the album with producer Mike McCarthy (Spoon, Trail of Dead). Of the album's title, Finn says, "It's a juxtaposed reference to "Friday Night Lights," a TV show that excited and moved me and also happened in Texas. Further, Clear Heart signifies honesty and transparency, and Full Eyes suggests experience." Based on Pollstar, the Concert Hotwire Magazine's 2011 Mid-Year Worldwide Ticket Sales, STG ranked #43 of the Top 100 promoters and The Paramount (ranked #12) and The Moore (ranked #44) were placed very well among the Top 100 Theatre Venues. STG is the 501 (c)(3) non-profit arts organization that operates the historic Paramount, Moore and Neptune Theatres in Seattle, Washington. |
