Village Theatre Issaquah Announces Summer KIDSTAGE Performances

The 2012 KIDSTAGE Summer Independent production is Stephen Sondheim's murderous Assassins running July 13-22 at Village Theatre's First Stage in Issaquah. Assassins is completely designed, directed and executed by emerging artists who are undergraduates in college and younger, all mentored by theatre professionals. It includes an all-student cast of 20 (ages range from 12-20) and a small ensemble orchestra. Assassins is directed by Katharine McClain, age 20 and music direction is by 19 year old Evan Zavada. Assassins is a revue-style exploration of men and women who attempted (successfully or otherwise) to assassinate Presidents of the United States. From John Wilkes Booth to John Hinckley, Jr. Assassins climaxes in a surreal sequence where the assassins convince Lee Harvey Oswald that his act is the only way he will connect with them, with history, and with the world. The tony award winning score varies to reflect the popular music of the eras depicted.

 

The KIDSTAGE SummerStock production is the rousing musical Music Man running July 28 – August 5 at the Francis J. Guadette Theatre. Under the direction of Village Theatre professionals, a large cast of 8-18 year old advanced theatre students perform together with a live professional orchestra infused with advanced student musicians, full sets, costumes, lighting and sound. This glorious musical centers on a charming con-man, Harold Hill, who poses as a boys' band leader so he can sell band instruments and uniforms to naive townsfolk before skipping town with the cash. Set in River City, Iowa in 1912, the town's prim librarian and piano teacher Marian Paroo discovers his scam just as cupid strikes and the plan starts to unravel.
