Tyler Perry Takes MADEA on the Road in 2010

Comedian and celebrated performer/producer/director Tyler Perry is taking his famed character, Madea, on the road.  In a message to fans on his official website, Perry announced that his new play, Madea's Big Happy Family will begin a national tour on January 4, 2010 at the Pepsi Arena in Denver, Colorado.  Perry will, of course, perform the title role.  Announcements regarding casting and a creative team are forthcoming.

Perry writes: "I wanted to tell you this before the tickets went on sale in most places....Madea is officially going on tour! That's right, a Madea play, live on tour! I have managed to carve out about a year to go on the road and see you all again...The show is called MADEA'S BIG HAPPY FAMILY. I'm going to come through as many cities as I can. I know I can't get to all of them but I'll try and get as close as I can."

So far, the tour has scheduled stops at the World Arena in Colorado Springs (January 5), Arco Arena in Sacramento (January 7), Key Arena in Seattle (January 9), Memorial Coliseum in Portland (January 10), the Sports Arena in San Diego (January 12), Save Mart Center in Fresno (January 13), Paramount Theatre in Oakland (January 15-17), the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles (January 19-24), Civic Center in Florence SC (February 2), RBC Center in Raleigh (February 3-5), Crown Coliseum in Feyetteville (February 6), Crickett Arena in Charlotte (February 7), Macon Arena in Macon GA (February 9), the Arie Crown Theatre in Chicago (March 2-6) and the Bushnell Theatre in Hartford (March 19-21). Perry has made two films featuring the Madea character, which he originally created on stage: Madea's Family Reunion and Madea Goes To Jail. Additional credits include television's House of Payne and Meet the Browns. Perry is additionally slated to direct a film adaptations of Broadway's For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf...He is one of the producers of the hit film, Precious, now out in theaters.
