Strawberry Theatre Workshop has been nominated for three 2012 Theatre Puget Sound Gregory Awards: Outstanding Supporting Actor for Jason Harber's performance in Accidental Death of an Anarchist, Outstanding Director for Gabriel Baron's direction of Anarchist, and Outstanding Production for Anarchist.
Strawshop is the only company to be nominated in the Outstanding Production category every year since the Gregory Awards' inception in 2009. Previously nominated productions are Breaking the Code (2011), The Laramie Project (2010), and The Elephant Man (2009). Of the nine shows that Strawshop has produced since 2009, six have garnered Gregory nominations in various categories.
Director/performer Sheila Daniels, who appears next month in Strawshop's This Land | Woody Guthrie, won a 2011 Gregory Award for her direction of Strawshop's Breaking the Code.
This Land | Woody Guthrie, a play for puppets and actors derived from the music, writing, and drawing of American folk artist Woody Guthrie, opens September 6 at the Erickson Theatre Off Broadway. For more information, visit http://www.strawshop.org.
The Gregory Awards are a set of honors dedicated to theatre in Washington State. Administered, funded, and produced by Theatre Puget Sound, the Gregory Awards come
together to celebrate the theatre arts in our region, honor the outstanding achievements of our theatre practitioners, and to raise the visibility of the local theatre scene as a whole.
The Gregory Awards began with a single category, the Gregory A. Falls Sustained Achievement Award, in 1998. Since then, they have grown to encompass 15 categories, 13 of which recognize outstanding contributions over the previous season.
The 2012 awards will be presented the evening of Monday, October 29, 2012 featuring live entertainment at ACT – A Contemporary Theatre in downtown Seattle. For more information, visit http://www.gregoryawards.org.
