Janice Findley Productions Presents THE SKRIKER, 10/19-11/11

Janice Findley Productions conjures up the mesmerizing world of Caryl Churchill's The Skriker in a signature theatrical event of the Halloween season, October 19 through November 11 at the Erickson Theatre (1524 Harvard Ave., Seattle). Led by director Janice Findley, choreographer Pat Graney, and lead actor Mary Ewald, The Skriker features a superb company of Seattle artists and performers in a work that is equal parts stunning theatre, evocative dance, and jaw-dropping visual art.

Tickets start at $20 and are on sale HERE. There will also be a pay-what-you-can preview performance on Thursday, October 18, 7:30 p.m.; and a special Halloween performance on Wednesday, October 31, 7:30 p.m.

The Skriker is directed by Janice Findley, winner of The Seattle Times' Footlight Award for her direction of Harold Pinter's Landscape (New City Theater). Findley is known for producing plays that delve into the deep recesses of human experience, and incorporate numerous artistic disciplines into one beautiful, haunting work.

Choreographer Pat Graney is a Seattle dance icon with international renown, called "one of the top choreographers in the county" (The Boston Globe) and known for "clean and gutsy dancing, heavy on theatrics and stunning special effects" (Dance Magazine).

Accomplished Seattle actress Mary Ewald takes on the role of the Skriker, a shape-shifting, wish-granting faerie making dark mischief in modern-day London in her pursuit of two teenaged runaways. Ewald has appeared in local productions at New City, Intiman Theatre, Seattle Repertory Theatre, ACT, and Empty Space, as well as numerous national and international productions.

Like the best fairy tales, The Skriker taps into the darker passages of the unconscious as two adolescent runaway girls are lured into a phantasmagoric London haunted by gremlins and faeries. Known as one of the best female dramatists in the world, Caryl Churchill has been weaving social reality with fantasy and theatrical experimentation for more than 30 years. Winner of three Obie awards, Churchill has written more than 30 plays including Cloud Nine, Top Girls, A Mouthful of Birds, and Love and Information.

An accomplished creative team and cast of actors and dancers will bring Churchill's fantasy world to life, including co-producer Curtis Taylor (Northwest Film Forum, On the Boards); production designer Timothy Siciliano (New City, Museum of Glass, Seattle Center); actor Jessica Martin (Double Indemnity, ACT; Sense and Sensibility, Book-it Repertory Theatre); dancer Christian Swenson ("Human Jazz"); and aerial performer/dancer Cathy Sutherland (Flying Karamazov Brothers, "Aviatrix").

The Skriker is recommended for audience members 14 and older; it contains some adult language, sexual reference, and mature content. The Skriker is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
