Cornish College of the Arts Represented by Three Students at Regional Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival

Three Cornish College of the Arts students have been chosen to participate in the 2013 Region 7 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. Seniors Michael Feldman and Ben Wippel have been nominated for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship Auditions for their work on The Mystery of Edwin Drood last spring, and Shades of Blue, a 10-minute play by junior Leila Jacobson was accepted for a staged reading in the festival.

"We are so proud of these students," said Cornish President Nancy Uscher. "They exemplify the talent and passion found in all Cornish artists from all disciplines."

"This is an experience that stays with a theater artist for a lifetime," added Jan Hubert, Theater Department Producer. "It builds relationships that lead to future opportunities for these emerging artists."

Students chosen to advance from the regional festival in the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship Auditions receive an all-expense paid trip to the national Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival in April. The winner of this program receives a $3,000 scholarship.

Ms. Jacobsen receives a $100 honorarium for the selection of her play and Shades of Blue will receive a staged reading in Seattle Repertory Theatre's New Play Festival in April.

The 2013 festival is hosted by American River College in Sacramento, California, February 18 through 22.

The Kennedy Center American Theatre Festival was founded in 1969, and is the premiere festival for college theater programs in the country.
