Saturday night I went to a party.  I wasn't sure what to expect at this party but when I got there I saw that two old friends were there.  These are the kind of friends everyone wants to have as they are the coolest people you know.  And when they come to a party you know you'll have a good time as Kevin will always tell the best stories and Simone will always sing the most wonderful songs.  OK, so it wasn't a party I went to it was the Seattle Rep's extremely limited run (only two performances) of Kevin Kling and Simone Perrin in "A Fool's Paradise".  But from the moment they stepped on stage, it felt like we were at a party with old friends and that there was nowhere on Earth we would rather be.

Tonight we reveled in Kevin's tales of fools in all their guises.  We heard of Kings and Princesses, Giants and Cyclopes, Mothers and fish.  And as usual we laughed, cried and sighed through the evening.  And in between each gem of a tale we were thrilled by an accordion, a ukulele and the stunningly beautiful voice of Simone as she sang of life, love and boots.  For those that have never seen one of the Kevin and Simone's shows before such as "Breakin' Hearts and Takin' Names" or "How? How? Why? Why? Why?" you don't know what you're missing as humorist, storyteller and NPR contributor Kevin Kling regales of stories from his past and beyond and singer Simone Perrin intersperses the evening with gorgeous melodies.  And for those that have you know exactly what I'm talking about and why those in the know flock to see our old friends whenever they come into town.

There's really not much more I can say about the show other than I seriously hope you were at tonight's performance with me or you're planning on seeing it Sunday afternoon as you really don't want to let them pass by.  If you do then you will have missed what I can only describe as two hours of unadulterated smiles and a genuine treat.

"A Fool's Paradise" plays at the Seattle Rep through April 1st.  For tickets or information call the Rep box office at 206-443-2222 or visit them online at www.seattlerep.org.
